Baptism
Dear Parents,
Thank you for seeking the sacrament of Baptism for your child — the greatest gift you can give.
We are happy to help you prepare for this special moment and to learn more about the grace your child will receive.
The sacrament of Baptism has the following effects:
It washes away original sin.
It makes us members of Christ’s Church.
It opens the door to the other sacraments.
It makes us sons and daughters of God the Father through Jesus Christ.
You will learn more about these blessings during the baptism preparation classes, for which you may sign up here.
Please note:
Children who are seven years of age or older are candidates for our Religious Education Program, which includes preparation for Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. For this, please contact the Religious Education Department at our parish.
Only parents are authorized to register a child for Baptism. Parents must either live within our parish boundaries or be registered parishioners. Otherwise, a letter of permission from your pastor is required to request the sacrament at St. Joseph.
If parents are separated, a letter of permission from the other parent is required. If one parent is unreachable, a petition for approval must be sent to the Archdiocese of Miami. If one parent is deceased, a copy of the death certificate is required.
Godparents: Only two are required (one male and one female). They must have received the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. A copy of the Confirmation certificate is required.
Witnesses: Those who do not meet the criteria to be godparents (e.g., baptized non-Catholics, Catholics who are underage or not confirmed) may serve as witnesses. They may stand at the baptism and sign as witnesses but do not assume the responsibilities of a sponsor.
Dress Code: Parents and godparents are expected to dress in Sunday best and modest attire.
Baptism Scheduling:
Community Baptism: The dates are listed below and take place on Sundays. The suggested donation is $100.
Private Baptism: Normally scheduled on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. (pending availability). The suggested donation is $300.
